For my first Job Shadow I went to Mary Ewertz Salon. I wanted to do something out of town and job shadow someone I didn't know. Mary showed me how to mix hair dye and the correct amount for each client. Mary told me about her time in college and how she decided to quit and get into cosmetology instead. I job shadowed Mary because after high school I plan on getting my cosmetology license to earn enough money to go back to college so I can become a therapist. I told her about my plans for the future and she gave me ideas. I watched Mary cut hair and talk to the clients like they were good friends. Mary greeted each and every client or customer with warm smiles and gave out great vibes. The shadow went so well she offered me a job at the end.
My dad has worked at KanOkla for 18 years now. KanOkla is a very important company to my family and to the community of Caldwell. That is why I decided to go to KanOkla for my second Job Shadow. I shadowed Brandi Williamson, a customer service representative. Before I shadowed Brandi I thought all the girls did was answer phones, I was completely wrong. I helped the girls open mail and stamp hundreds of checks. I stocked shelves and wrote down everything that they needed to order. They told me stories about mean or rude customers and how to deal with them. Overall, shadowing Brandi taught me a lot about what all they have to do and I even learned more things about the company.
Watching Mary cut and color hair.
Watching Brandi and seeing what she does everyday. I'm also stamping bills and getting them ready for the post office.
Career Report
Growing up, I didn't want to be a princess or a ballerina. I've wanted to help both animals and people for as long as I can remember. Because of this, I've decided to become a therapist. Since a young age I've had counseling for my long list of mental problems. Counseling has taught me that talking through your problems and issues can help with all the stress. Counselors have helped me through hard and bad times and I want to do the same thing for other people. Becoming a therapist is definitely something I hope I will be doing in my future. The first step, is earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. Sociology and health sciences are also a good idea. Earning a Phd in psychology will give me the widest range of career options. In varying states, one can become a psychologist with a masters degree in counseling. It will take four to five years for a masters in psychology. For a doctorate in psychology it will take another four to seven years in graduate school. For most people, becoming a therapist will take from eight up to twelve years. Oklahoma University will cost up to eight thousand dollars per semester. College is expensive so I plan to apply for as many scholarships as I possibly can. Around 210 jobs are available for therapists in Kansas. Two hundred twenty jobs are available in Oklahoma. In bigger states more therapists are needed. Take Colorado for example, 920 jobs are available. The bigger or more populate the area, the more jobs there are. Annual salaries start around $36,970 and can go up to $96,880. Psychologists in Oklahoma earn a median salary of $46,800 per year. Salaries typically start from $30,530 and can go up to $80,180. The salary changes everywhere you go because of the bills you will have to pay and the living expenses.

Change not a Challenge
My whole life I've struggled with changes. I've learned to go more with flow and not think every change is a challenge. Family is the most important thing to me. It always has been and it always will be. My dad and mom met when I was four and my sister, Delaney, was two almost three. My little sister, Adley, was born in 2006. My parents were married for eleven years. Those eleven years were filled with mostly happiness. My parents kept their fighting to themselves and slowly drifted more and more apart. My parents divorced when I was a freshmen. It was one of the hardest things my family has ever been through. For the past two, almost three years, we have been trying to mend all of our hurt and frustration from it. I moved into my dad’s after the divorce. Which meant my sisters and I lived in two different houses. My dad now has a girlfriend and my mom has a boyfriend. Things are still complicated but I’m so happy they have another person to love and they are happy. I now live with my mom and sisters again. We are trying to regain what we all had once. Before the divorce, my sisters and I were very close. Now it's like I'm a stranger living in their home. I missed so much and we only occasionally talked when I lived with my dad. My sisters have grown up into such different people in these few years. I’m learning more and more about them everyday. Delaney is determined to do something great with her life. Every night I come home from work she is at the dining room table with papers all around her studying until she finally can’t. She is one of the smartest and hardworking people I have ever met. Adley loves her sports and Harry Potter. She is one of the quirkiest and funniest people I have ever met. We still don’t see each other much because they have practice right after school and I have work. I want things to go back to normal but I know it’s going to take time. It’s not just my sisters I missed though, I missed my mom too. My mom does so much for all of us girls. She works so hard and she still manages to come home with a smile on her face. I know that after some time we will all continue to get closer. I will continue to take all hard challenges in my life as change and if I don't like the change, well, I’ll change it.
