On January 12th we helped with the Pre-K room and Mrs. Teeter's room. The rooms flooded because of a pipe. We helped clear the rooms of their things so the floors and walls could be fixed. We carried things out into the hall and made sure everything was clean and ready to be put back into the rooms after they were fixed. The water damage wasn't too bad but it destroyed many things. Toys and important papers had to be thrown away. It made me think of the states that are around water that have to deal with floods and hurricanes seasonally. I hope to help people and animals in the future that go through something of the sort. As a group we spent 3 hours doing this.

On May 3rd we helped clean up for the Chisholm Trail. We all did different things during this. I helped clean the gazebo and around it. I also raked up leaves, swept, pulled weeds, and even power washed a big Chisholm Trail monument stone. Doing all of this made me realize how hard it is to clean up the town. I enjoyed eating at the Red Barn with my classmates afterwards. We spent 3 hours doing this.

On September 26th we did Wellness Night. My classmates and I ran Wellness Night. We came up with games and we even had snacks for the kids. We all split up into groups of three or four and had stations. I worked at the parachute station. We started out with playing sharks but ended up doing different games because there were smaller kids. I now know that making a night for kids isn't as hard as we thought it would be. Kids could care less about how it looks. As long as they are having fun and have snacks, they are perfectly happy. Working with kids is actually one of my favorite things to do so it was a pretty fun night for me as well. We spent 3 hours doing this.

Individual Hours
On February 17th I helped with the Border Queen Gun Show. Mr. Greenlee told the class about it and I signed up for it shortly after. I helped with security. I sat at the door and made sure no one walked out with something on display without paying. I actually don't like guns so it was a weird experience. I learned that a lot of people in this town enjoy guns and hunting. I enjoyed the free shirts we received and looking around at all the things they had on display. I still don't like guns very much but because of the gun show i've learned to be more okay with them because of the experience I had and the people I met. I spent 3 hours helping.
On February 25th I helped with the Daddy Daughter Dance. I heard about the dance from my classmates. I asked one of the sponsors for the dance if I could help and she agreed to let me. I helped set up the dance and put food out. When the dance started I helped people with their food and watched the littles dance around and play with the balloons. I also stayed to clean up after the dance was over. The dance was absolutely adorable. The girls and their dads came dressed up. My favorite part was watching the girls dance with each other and have a good time. I would actually love to help with this again because it was amazing to see how the dance helped the girls bond with their dads. I spent 4 hours helping.
On April 17th I spent 3 hours helping at the concession stand at a track meet. I heard about this from Mr. Greenlee as well. I emailed Julia Strnad and got it set up. I mostly helped out with taking people's money and giving them their change and food they wanted back. I helped with restocking and making hamburgers as well. Surprisingly, it was very hectic. It got pretty busy at times but when it died down we could sit and talk or watch people run or do other activities. This made me more aware of how hard the parents work when they volunteer to work at the concession stand.
I spent a lot of the summer helping out at the library and doing summer reading. I learned about this from the seniors throughout the years i've been in high school. I texted Lisa and asked if I could help and she agreed. Katie Townsend and Sophee Sprague also helped. I did a lot of errands for Lisa and went to the story times. It was a great experience. I loved helping Lisa and hanging out with the kids and parents that came to the story times. I don't read a whole lot but it was amazing to see the kids come and enjoy the stories that were read. Reading is very important for kids so it was great to witness. I have actually started reading more since summer reading. I spent 13 hours helping with this.
